On April 16, writer/director J.T. Petty joined us for a live web chat and screening. We watched Blood Red Earth, his prequel to The Burrowers, along with a behind-the-scenes featurette, the trailer and two clips from the film. The complete chat transcript is below.
20:19 Moderator : Hello and welcome to FEARnet's live chat with JT Petty!
20:20 Moderator : We're about 40 minutes away from start time, so now might be a good time to get up, stretch your legs, use the rest room...
20:22 Moderator : ...because once we start this chat, we're not pulling over.
20:35 Moderator : T-minus 25 minutes and counting.
20:42 Moderator : Helpful tip >> If you've just joined us, click on the bottom and type in something to say "hello" to give yourself a nickname.
20:42 Moderator : (It'll make sense when you do it. Trust me.)
20:45 tom_cymbal_monkey : hello
20:46 TENEBRE : hey
20:46 FearFan : hi-lo
20:46 tom_cymbal_monkey : I made it in. Stupid java
20:46 Moderator : Welcome Mr. Cymbal Monkey!
20:47 tom_cymbal_monkey : I'm one of J.T.'s fans and Facebook friends
20:47 kaiser soze : hello
20:47 Moderator : JT who? Kidding, I'm kidding. Welcome.
20:47 tom_cymbal_monkey : some guy who makes movies
20:47 tom_cymbal_monkey : lol
20:48 cz3ch : cz3ch here
20:49 Moderator : Welcome Kaiser, czech.
20:49 TENEBRE : Has anyone seen The Burrowers yet?
20:49 Moderator : Are you actually on from the Cz3ch Republic?
20:49 cz3ch : Yes I am
20:49 cz3ch : originally...
20:49 cz3ch : prague
20:50 tom_cymbal_monkey : I haven't seen it yet. I won't download no bootleg.
20:50 Moderator : Fantastic. I love Prague.
20:50 cz3ch : I saw Mimic: Sentinel so finding out about Burrowers should be great
20:50 Moderator : Helpful tip >> If you've just joined us, click on the bottom and type in something to say "hello" to give yourself a nickname.
20:50 tom_cymbal_monkey : Soft For Digging is one of my favorite movies
20:50 cz3ch : Found fearnet on Twitter... been stuck on the site ever since.. forget fango :)
20:50 TENEBRE : Soft for Digging is a really cool movie, saw it at the Philly Fest years ago
20:51 cz3ch : That's going to be nuts.. horror in a western scene
20:51 Moderator : Anybody see S&Man? I really want to.
20:51 tom_cymbal_monkey : JT is a master of creating spooky atmosphere
20:51 tom_cymbal_monkey : I can't find S&Man anywhere
20:52 cz3ch : I think I'm going to have to order Burrowers.. granted I'll have to rip it to my Mac Mini since I don't do DVD anymore
20:52 TENEBRE : S&Man played philly fest too, it's pretty distubing
20:52 cz3ch : but I love supporting new and upcoming directors
20:52 Moderator : We'll have to ask JT where we can find S&Man.
20:52 tom_cymbal_monkey : I thought Netflix would have it but, no
20:52 TENEBRE : Did it ever get a DVD release?
20:52 tom_cymbal_monkey : not sure
20:52 cz3ch : Is anyone else's video stalling? or is it my horrible ATT net
20:52 tom_cymbal_monkey : mine's ok
20:52 kaiser soze : i am good too
20:53 Moderator : Not according to IMDB.
20:53 tom_cymbal_monkey : I make movies too and distribution can be tricky
20:53 cz3ch : I would die to direct/create horror movies
20:53 cz3ch : i'm good with an HD camera but never really had the friends/people to work with on a project here in Houston
20:53 tom_cymbal_monkey : I actually do visual effects but I'm branching into other aspects of production
20:54 cz3ch : lol pseudo-horse
20:54 Moderator : It can be done. Soft for Digging was reportedly shot for only $6000.
20:54 tom_cymbal_monkey : Houston eh? Look up Justin Powers. He might be able to help
20:54 cz3ch : Will do.. There's a few guys here that do horror but haven't met anyone serious...
20:54 cz3ch : tons of pr0n filmers ;)
20:55 cz3ch : I gotta see 30days series too.. I have the scream down pat lol
20:55 tom_cymbal_monkey : Justin Powers did Pot Zombies, which Troma bought. He shot it in Houston I think.
20:55 Moderator : Helpful tip >> If you've just joined us, click on the bottom and type in something to give yourself a nickname.
20:55 cz3ch : I saw that... good stuff..
20:55 Moderator : You're nobody without a nickname. LIterally.
20:55 tom_cymbal_monkey : I did some of the crappy effects. lol
20:56 tom_cymbal_monkey : the dorky lightbar on the cop car? Yeah, that was me.
20:56 cz3ch : LOL
20:56 cz3ch : That's awesome
20:56 tom_cymbal_monkey : my talent has improved, thank god
20:57 cz3ch : I'd been doing latex/appliance work for years.... i stopped about 8 years ago... i do miss it..it's a pricey hobby
20:57 Turtle : Hello
20:57 tom_cymbal_monkey : yes it is. I'd love to do more with the actual makeup but we have a guy for that. I've been relegated to coputer stuff
20:58 tom_cymbal_monkey : I work with the team behind Tiki now.
20:58 TENEBRE : Hey Turtle
20:58 FEARman : Hey all
20:58 FEARman : this is cool
20:59 Moderator : Helpful tip >> If you've just joined us, click on the bottom and type in something to give yourself a nickname.
20:59 Moderator : JT will be joing us in a moment.
20:59 tom_cymbal_monkey : is Blood Red earth going to be included on the Burrowers DVD?
20:59 FEARman : I hope so
21:00 FEARman : i've been watching it here
21:00 tom_cymbal_monkey : me too
21:00 Moderator : If you haven't seen Blood Red Earth, we'll be screening it as part of this chat in a few minutes.
21:00 tom_cymbal_monkey : I love the shot of the deer's eye
21:00 kaiser soze : oops, closed my browser by mistake
21:00 Moderator : Welcome back, ks.
21:00 TENEBRE : WB
21:00 jt : Howdy. JT here.
21:00 cz3ch : Welcome
21:00 TENEBRE : Hey JT
21:01 Moderator : Welcome JT!!!
21:01 tom_cymbal_monkey : the man of the hour
21:01 flamer : Woo-hoo JT
21:01 jt : And perfect timing- can deliver some bad news.
21:01 Moderator : Bad news...?
21:01 lilrounds : dude...coolio
21:01 tom_cymbal_monkey : eek
21:01 jt : No blood red earth on the DVD. Hoping to include it on a future version.
21:01 Moderator : awwwwww
21:01 tom_cymbal_monkey : ok thanks for the info
21:01 TENEBRE : Booooooooo
21:01 lilrounds : jt is howt
21:01 cz3ch : I'm still getting the DVD .. regardless
21:01 tom_cymbal_monkey : me too
21:01 flamer : well at least we can keep watching here on FEARnet
21:02 Moderator : OK, let me do a little Moderator-y type stuff here for posterity. (I know everyone here already knows all about JT)
21:02 jt : Great. I really like the online presentation.
21:02 tom_cymbal_monkey : I also caught JT's creepy christmas short
21:02 Moderator : Hello & welcome to FEARnet's live chat with writer/director JT Petty.
21:02 Moderator : JT is an NYU film school grad whose first film, Soft For Digging, played at Sundance and was called "minimalist but impressive" by Variety, not least for its
21:02 Moderator : shoestring $6000 budget.
21:02 Moderator : He's gone on to write and direct Mimic: Sentinel and S&man, a horror film that takes the form of a documentary
21:02 Moderator : on voyeurism, fetishism and horror moviemaking.
21:02 Moderator : He's also penned the scripts for two games in the best-selling Splinter Cell series of video games.
21:03 Moderator : His latest feature is THE BURROWERS, which is being released to DVD by Lionsgate this Tuesday.
21:03 Moderator : We're going to see the trailer as well as two exclusive clips,
21:03 lilrounds : i totally am gonna buy it
21:03 Moderator : but before that we'll screen BLOOD RED EARTH, the FEARnet-exclusive prequel to THE BURROWERS.
21:03 Moderator : JT, thanks for taking the time out to be with us tonight!
21:03 cz3ch : woah... video games too? what hasn't JT done?
21:03 flamer : can't wait!
21:03 TENEBRE : Thanks JT!
21:03 Moderator : JT, how are you doing? Where are you tonight?
21:03 lilrounds : you rock you must be totally bizzee thanks for coming to talk to us
21:03 jt : I'm in Brooklyn.
21:04 lilrounds : are you on location
21:04 tom_cymbal_monkey : land of Harry Angel
21:04 jt : Not so busy, getting ready to fly to amsterdam.
21:04 Weinberg : weinberg in the house
21:04 tom_cymbal_monkey : nice!
21:04 jt : Yeah. I got a thing about chickens.
21:04 cz3ch : Bring some snacks and your bicyle :)
21:04 tom_cymbal_monkey : lol. Glad you got that joke
21:04 jt : Angel Heart's one of my favorites.
21:05 tom_cymbal_monkey : mine too, with Event Horizon and Soft For Digging!
21:05 cz3ch : nice here we go
21:05 lilrounds : what are u doing in amsterdam jt
21:05 TENEBRE : Weinberg!
21:05 jt : There's a film festival there.
21:05 jt : Tenebre, are you Scott?
21:05 lilrounds : sawwet
21:05 Weinberg : i am
21:05 Moderator : Here's Blood Red Earth. JT, feel free to offer any thoughts or whatnot, like a live commentary track.
21:05 Weinberg : to prove it: I love Ashley
21:05 tom_cymbal_monkey : of course we all know the real reason he's going. LOL
21:05 TENEBRE : TENEBRE = Lawrence
21:05 jt : Weinberg!
21:05 Moderator : Also, if you have a question for JT, throw it out there but please don't spam the room.
21:05 Weinberg : jaytee
21:05 cz3ch : yup.... roll it up
21:06 Weinberg : thanks for coming man
21:06 lilrounds : do u have a film there in amsterdam. new film? do telllllll
21:06 jt : That kid who plays the younger brother is named Kerwin. Strange name.
21:06 jt : Burrowers is playing in Amsterdam.
21:06 cz3ch : woah....
21:06 cz3ch : put him down
21:06 tom_cymbal_monkey : where did you shoot this?
21:06 jt : There's Larry Fessenden as "The white giuy."
21:06 lilrounds : i hope u win..your films are shot really nice
21:07 jt : Brought his own dirt for the costume.
21:07 Weinberg : i watch BRE a week ago on FN. couldnt find the directors credit anywhere heh
21:07 cz3ch : Larry looks like the Undertaker :)
21:07 Moderator : JT, how did you first connect with Larry, a pretty awesome horror filmmaker in his own right?
21:07 jt : I came back east to shoot BRE, wanted to shoot somewhere near NYC.
21:07 jt : Figured Larry knew how to do that better than anybody.
21:07 FEARman : Jt, if you dont mind me asking...was this shot on a digital camera...like an HVX200 or a SONY XDcam ?
21:07 Moderator : Helpful tip >> If you've just joined us, click on the bottom and type in something to give yourself a nickname.
21:07 kaiser soze : what made you choose to do this all in the indian language?
21:07 jt : Cold-called him, and he seemed excited by the idea.
21:08 Dan : Are the Native Americans in this Short Film all from the same tribe?
21:08 jt : We shot BRE on 16mm.
21:08 jt : Same DP as Burrowers- Phil Parmet.
21:08 Moderator : Is he in the phone book? Should we all call him now?
21:08 lilrounds : it looks hd
21:08 jt : Lotta different tribes presented, though all dressed as Lakota.
21:08 jt : The kid who plays BRE is Crow. We had two sioux, a couple east coast tribes.
21:09 jt : To Kasier's question- shooting this in Lakota was the first idea I had.
21:09 tom_cymbal_monkey : no white guys painted up to look like indians like they used to do
21:09 jt : Kinda liked the idea of not including subtitles.
21:09 Dan : That'd be cool for the DVD
21:09 jt : We got that deer from the burreau of animal control.
21:10 jt : Courtesee of somebody's SUV.
21:10 Weinberg : Is this film n indictment of the American food industry!!??
21:10 Weinberg : ;-)
21:10 tom_cymbal_monkey : I like your very subtle use of music. You know when to stop
21:10 OH MY HORROR : OOOO The Burrowers!!!! right on!!!!
21:10 jt : The music here is from On Fillmore, same guys who did S&Man.
21:10 flamer : That is pretty cool
21:10 jt : The drummer from Wilcow and the basist from Grand Ulena.
21:10 Weinberg : raise your hand i yyouve seen S&M
21:10 Weinberg : ehee
21:11 tom_cymbal_monkey : so you're saying the deer was roadkill?
21:11 FEARman : 16mm wow....do you shoot anything digital?
21:11 kaiser soze : was S&man ever released?
21:11 jt : That's you and my mom, Weinberg.
21:11 jt : S&man was shot digital.
21:11 Dan : Which do you prefer?
21:11 TENEBRE : ::hand raised::
21:11 jt : S&Man is sitll unreleased. Tied up in legal ***.
21:11 Weinberg : visit www.pettybootlefas.com !!!
21:11 Moderator : Helpful tip >> If you've just joined us, click on the bottom and type in something to give yourself a nickname.
21:11 jt : Wow, this won't let me curse.
21:11 Weinberg : my keyobard is all screwt
21:11 OH MY HORROR : havnt the indians sufferd enough....
21:11 OH MY HORROR : just kidding
21:11 jt : Those asterisks are bull feces above.
21:11 Weinberg : this chat video setu ont like me firefox
21:12 tom_cymbal_monkey : something I've been dying to ask you, JT
21:12 Moderator : Sorry, JT. We'll pull the language filter for our next event.
21:12 tom_cymbal_monkey : the shot of the deer's eye moving: How did you do that?
21:12 Moderator : Sorry Weinberg - I'm on Firefox on PC and it's playing well.
21:12 jt : That was digitally manipulated, the shot of the eye.
21:12 Weinberg : np
21:13 jt : Very subtle movement, enlarged the texture of the eye.
21:13 jt : ANd slid it inside a mask of the lid.
21:13 dollmaker : dollmaker
21:13 tom_cymbal_monkey : I thought so but it looks real. I thought at first you had some unlucky guy rolling the eye underneath the carcass
21:13 jt : We did have a guy breathing into the deer with a tube to make it breath.
21:14 Weinberg : jt -- Ive read some early reactions complaingin tha the film is more Western than horror. that bothr you at all?
21:14 OH MY HORROR : loven the music.
21:14 jt : Sucked for him that he had to inhale too.
21:14 tom_cymbal_monkey : gross
21:14 jt : Calling it more western than horror seems entirely fair to me.
21:14 jt : Doesn't seem like a bad thing at all.
21:14 tom_cymbal_monkey : have you ever seen Eyes of Fire? This has a similar vibe
21:14 Weinberg : folks seem to think theyre getting Tremors 5
21:14 jt : Never saw eyes of fire.
21:15 Weinberg : and are surprised by something a litle more substantial
21:15 tom_cymbal_monkey : it's an old one from the early 80's.
21:15 Moderator : I like the atmospheric cut-aways to bugs and such. What gave you the idea to use them?
21:15 jt : I like tremors, but don't invite the comparison. Not much into camp.
21:15 jt : The idea of the bugs is to keep the grass alive.
21:16 jt : Want people aware that everything they're walking through is full of creepy crawlies.
21:16 tom_cymbal_monkey : fields seem like dangerous places in horror films
21:16 tom_cymbal_monkey : remember Onibaba?
21:16 jt : I've lived in NY too long. I see grass and get the willies.
21:16 jt : I love me some onibaba.
21:16 Weinberg : Ivee hi willies and I g get grass
21:16 FEARman : JT...what is your next project?
21:16 Weinberg : i cant SEE the typing bar! haha
21:17 jt : You okay, Weinberg?
21:17 Weinberg : Im typing blod@
21:17 Weinberg : l\blind
21:17 tom_cymbal_monkey : I live next to that arboretum where they were blowing up squirrels. It was on national news
21:17 Weinberg : Ill shutup sorry
21:17 jt : Drinking sterno again?
21:17 Weinberg : heh
21:17 jt : Most likely next project is Faces of Death.
21:17 tom_cymbal_monkey : I shot some footage there for a small project last week
21:17 Moderator : It seems like there's no safe place in the world of Blood Red Earth.
21:17 jt : Turning in a new draft, waiting to see if the accountants like it.
21:18 tom_cymbal_monkey : it's it a mockumentary like the original FOD?
21:18 Moderator : Is that one of the advantages of shooting a period horror movie, you can strip away a lot of the modern safety net...?
21:18 flamer : that was a good scene
21:18 jt : To the period horror question- absolutely, no cell phones. No internet.
21:18 jt : My FOD isn't a mockumentary.
21:18 tom_cymbal_monkey : ahhh
21:18 jt : Seems nastier to include real death in fiction than vice versa.
21:18 Weinberg : are the burrowers meant to represent h encroaching industrial age, theeby acting as a symboli curtain for the native americans?
21:19 Weinberg : <---- dork
21:19 jt : Good one.
21:19 tom_cymbal_monkey : just don't make it come off douchey. So many of those movies come off that way now
21:19 jt : The burrowers represent the vegetarian agenda. Slowly eating away at parking freedoms in this country.
21:19 FEARman : HAHAHA
21:19 jt : I'll try to dodge doucheyness.
21:20 Weinberg : note to self: less ..... douchibness
21:20 jt : The whole reason remaking faces of death makes sense to me is that there's nothing really to remake there.
21:20 tom_cymbal_monkey : haha
21:20 jt : You couldn't just do fake snuff, because anybody who wants to see real snuff can just go to the internet.
21:20 tom_cymbal_monkey : do you have a fascination with snuff?
21:20 Weinberg : at jtpetty.com!
21:20 jt : For the kids.
21:21 Moderator : Helpful tip >> If you've just joined us, click on the bottom and type in something to give yourself a nickname.
21:21 TENEBRE : kids love snuff
21:21 TENEBRE : and happy meals
21:21 Weinberg : my kids love kuffs
21:21 jt : THat's synergy right there.
21:21 jt : Somebody call meatclown.
21:21 tom_cymbal_monkey : This may sound really creepy but I'd be curious to see the footage from Armin Meiwes' video
21:21 Weinberg : see?
21:21 FEARman : cool movie
21:21 Weinberg : no director credit
21:21 Weinberg : where is it
21:22 Moderator : That was Blood Red Earth, the prequel to The Burrowers.
21:22 jt : My director's credit is stashed in a DGA vault somewhere.
21:22 tom_cymbal_monkey : *applauds*
21:22 Weinberg : yes well done
21:22 Moderator : In just a bit, we're going to show two super EXCLUSIVE scenes from the film.
21:22 Weinberg : a creepy cool shiot
21:22 Weinberg : short
21:22 Moderator : But first we've got a behind-the-scenes clip to play.
21:22 flamer : cool!
21:22 Turtle : good stuff
21:22 Weinberg : JT will my cat JONES like thi movie????
21:23 Moderator : JT, What's THE BURROWERS about? How did you come to THE BURROWERS...or how did it come to you?
21:23 jt : Jones will like this movie. Feature less cat death than my other stuff.
21:23 TENEBRE : Jones likes vaseline on toast
21:23 kaiser soze : Watching this made me put the burrowers on my netflix
21:23 Dan : /cheer JT!
21:23 tom_cymbal_monkey : lol. Like the cat scene in Soft For Digging. I actually got it.
21:23 Weinberg : hey look its you!
21:23 Weinberg : on the video screen!
21:23 jt : Looking more like John C. Reilly every day.
21:24 tom_cymbal_monkey : shake and bake time, JT
21:24 jt : That horse larry rides in the movie tried to kill him.
21:25 jt : Ran into the woods, wanted to knock him off on a low-hanging branch.
21:25 Weinberg : yeah backtrack to hat for a sec plz
21:25 Weinberg : what was the first seed?
21:25 jt : I think you can see in the making of where we had to have a grip replace the horse.
21:25 kaiser soze : whats with that dudes tooth
21:25 jt : The first seed?
21:25 Weinberg : the first idea
21:25 Weinberg : whered it comes from
21:25 flamer : yeah, that tooth is ridiculous
21:25 tom_cymbal_monkey : two guys in a horse costume, eh? :)
21:25 Weinberg : THW MOVIE
21:25 Weinberg : hehe
21:25 jt : Right. Burrowers started with the two genres.
21:26 FEARman : JT who are your favorite directors
21:26 jt : From there I figured the monster. Wanted a mammal that ate like a spider.
21:26 Moderator : AND NOW...THE TRAILER!
21:26 jt : After the monster, I figured the characters, and it came together from there.
21:26 tom_cymbal_monkey : Clancy Brown is cool
21:26 jt : I have favorite movies more than directors.
21:26 Weinberg : clancy brown!
21:26 Weinberg : green mile dude!
21:27 jt : But I'd have to say-- miller's crossing, road warior, violent cop, and babe.
21:27 jt : Clancy Brown showed up every morning on set with a fresh string of ears around his neck.
21:27 jt : Would never say where he got them.
21:27 Moderator : Ha!
21:27 flamer : dude, i can't wait to see this
21:27 tom_cymbal_monkey : what??
21:27 flamer : where was this shot?
21:28 jt : We shot burrowers in New Mexico. Santa Fe.
21:28 Moderator : AND NOW (drum roll please)...
21:28 tom_cymbal_monkey : that looks SO cool
21:28 dollmaker : JT, what is the story behind the Mexican comic book cover featuring the Burrowers that you had posted on your site?
21:28 Moderator : Your FIRST exclusive clip from THE BURROWERS.
21:28 Weinberg : oh this is the scene where all the COOL CHARCTERS die
21:28 Weinberg : awesome
21:28 Weinberg : heeheeee
21:28 tom_cymbal_monkey : damn gophers
21:28 jt : That mexican comic cover was a joke. Los burrowers.
21:29 jt : This should have had a bill murray appearance.
21:29 jt : Damn gophers.
21:29 tom_cymbal_monkey : that's why they blew up the squirrels a block away
21:29 Weinberg : talk a little about directing horses, jt
21:29 Weinberg : do horses respct you
21:30 flamer : what the hell is that?
21:30 Moderator : We're showing that one again.
21:30 jt : Horses are retarded dinosaurs.
21:30 Moderator : It was too good to see only once.
21:30 Weinberg : Im telling all horses you said that
21:30 Moderator : I love me some Clancy Brown.
21:30 jt : Tell them to come to brooklyn, I'm waiting for them.
21:30 jt : Clancy Brown makes Chuck Norris look like a woman.
21:30 tom_cymbal_monkey : never work with horses again,huh?
21:30 jt : And you can tell chuck norris and his horse that I said that.
21:31 Weinberg : jt was jesus crockett a real person?
21:31 flamer : what is the thing in the hole? blood? i can't see
21:31 Moderator : Our second clip takes place...later, I'm gonna guess. 'Cause it's dark.
21:31 Moderator : Here we go.
21:31 Weinberg : looks kinda like a bi eye
21:31 Weinberg : or anus
21:31 jt : The thing in the hole is supposed to be a little ambiguous.
21:31 Weinberg : or mouth
21:32 Weinberg : or ambiguous, yeah
21:32 jt : But it's a piece of a corpse.
21:32 flamer : that would make sense
21:32 FEARman : whoa about chuck norris
21:32 jt : A hole punched in a rib cage.
21:32 jt : Or anus, weinberg? A little cronenberg in there?
21:32 flamer : how did you come up with the idea of the sounds the burrowers make?
21:32 Weinberg : it looked like a roun orifice to me
21:32 Weinberg : SORRY, ARTIST!
21:32 Weinberg : ;)
21:32 jt : You've got the anus version of tootsie roll fever.
21:33 jt : Everything you think you see...
21:33 jt : The burrowers sounds were built from a bunch of different animals.
21:33 FEARman : In trying to perfect the prototype the "total Gym", chuck norris accidently create Optimus Prime
21:33 jt : Badgers and cougars, mostly.
21:33 Weinberg : jt, true or false: rob Hall is awesome
21:33 jt : A bit of blowing bubbles in egg whites and such.
21:33 flamer : love it
21:33 Moderator : And that's our second clip. One more time!
21:33 tom_cymbal_monkey : badger badger badger
21:33 jt : Don't bait me, Weinberg.
21:33 Weinberg : hehe
21:33 jt : Anybody seen Laid To Rest, yet?
21:33 flamer : not yet, plan on it though
21:34 tom_cymbal_monkey : what is it?
21:34 jt : Awesome kills.
21:34 flamer : what do you think?
21:34 Moderator : Is it tough shooting night in the desert?
21:34 jt : Rob Hall made the monsters in Burrowers.
21:34 flamer : his stuff is rad
21:34 jt : He directed a movie called Laid To Rest, slasher movie. .
21:34 tom_cymbal_monkey : ah cool
21:34 Weinberg : both on dvd enxt week
21:34 jt : Shooting at night in the desert was fun.
21:34 Weinberg : rest and Burrow
21:34 flamer : was it freaking cold?
21:34 jt : Only downside was nights in the summer in the high desert are short.
21:35 tom_cymbal_monkey : go shoot yourself a mess of rattlers?
21:35 jt : Maybe eiht hours of true dark.
21:35 jt : Rattlers were a threat, but never actually a problem.
21:35 jt : The ants were much worse.
21:35 Weinberg : ok, serious question: Western are oten about th external, horrors th internal. This a tough balance to direct?
21:35 Moderator : LAID TO REST is out on DVD April 21st.
21:35 tom_cymbal_monkey : heh heh. I just remembered Grim Prairie Tales
21:35 Moderator : Those were our two exclusive clips. Thanks to JT and Lionsgate for making it possible to show them.
21:35 Moderator : Anybody have any requests to see anything again?
21:36 flamer : The Burrowers looks sweet - definitely my kind of sutff
21:36 jt : Much appreciated, flamer.
21:36 jt : To the external/internal question--
21:36 Weinberg : shhh thats my question!
21:36 jt : Look at Missouri Breaks.
21:36 Weinberg : good anwer
21:37 jt : Use the epic landscape to point at all the messed up internal stuff.
21:37 flamer : JT - your voice is so deep. It's awesome. Perfect for a horror director.
21:37 Weinberg : you should see him karruyokee
21:37 Moderator : JT, what's next for you? Any projects you can discuss?
21:37 tom_cymbal_monkey : you could always have a second career as a trailer voice over guy
21:37 flamer : tell us, tell us
21:37 jt : We talked about Faces of Death.
21:37 John Palisano : Hey J.T.! Is this going to be on Blu Ray, too?
21:38 jt : Possibly a book I optioned from Don Delillo
21:38 Moderator : That was for real?
21:38 jt : No Blu Ray as of yet.
21:38 John Palisano : This movie looks amazing.
21:38 flamer : i agree
21:39 John Palisano : Where did the mythology of the creatues come from?
21:39 jt : Have to appreciate the glass eye pix logo.
21:39 jt : Guy who made that just made a movie calle "I sell the dead."
21:39 jt : Creature mythology is all original.
21:39 Weinberg : ok fellas, Im out. support NEW horror! JT, we splat chat soon, Lawry, I hart you
21:39 kaiser soze : ohhhh, i wanted to see that when it was playing in philly
21:39 tom_cymbal_monkey : we seem to be in the middle of a third golden age of horror
21:39 jt : Lotta inspiration from naked mole rats, spider, komodo dragons.
21:39 TENEBRE : later weinberg
21:40 jt : See you scott.
21:40 John Palisano : Is this the extra scene?
21:40 jt : I'll bring you somethin gfrom amsterdam.
21:40 Weinberg : oooo dont get arrested
21:40 Moderator : Any other genres you're eager to mash up with horror? I think western-horror is pretty inspired.
21:40 jt : Heist movie horror.
21:40 jt : Food movie horror.
21:40 Dan : DIdn't they do Mob Horror in Leprechaun 4?
21:40 tom_cymbal_monkey : I'd like to see what JT could muster up ani mation wise
21:41 Moderator : I think Dusk 'Til Dawn was kind of heist/comedy/horror.
21:41 TENEBRE : Buddy cop horror?
21:41 jt : How much cooler would Eat Drink Man Woman be with cannibalism?
21:41 FEARman : did you shoot Burrowers on 16mm to...or full fledged 35MM
21:41 Moderator : ha!
21:41 jt : Burrowers was 35mm.
21:41 tom_cymbal_monkey : I thought Feed was funny is a disgusting sort of way, speaking of food horror
21:42 jt : I haven't seen Feed. Something recent?
21:42 FEARman : cool
21:42 tom_cymbal_monkey : 2005 I think
21:42 jt : PARENTS is great stuff.
21:42 BoPeep : Thanks for the preview JT, . . . but it's no SHANE.
21:42 tom_cymbal_monkey : it's about a fetish site operator that feeds women to death
21:42 jt : SHANE is also great stuff.
21:42 Moderator : I love PARENTS.
21:42 Dan : Is that a sequel to KIDS?
21:43 kaiser soze : i feel they just don't understand
21:43 Dan : JT, are there any actors you'd really like to work with?
21:43 jt : Gene Wilder. Snoop Dogg.
21:43 kaiser soze : or that you would like to get in faces of death
21:43 tom_cymbal_monkey : I'd like to work with JT. Sorry to blow smoke up your ***.
21:44 jt : If I could remake Face/Off, it would be with those two guys.
21:44 Dan : I'd like to see Paris Hilton in Faces of Death. :D
21:44 tom_cymbal_monkey : me too!
21:44 Moderator : Sounds like someone is pitching a remake of Stir Crazy.
21:44 tom_cymbal_monkey : I want to get CRispin Glover but my producers say no
21:45 John Palisano : Okay. I need to get this DVD. Paris was good in that Repo movie, I'll give her that. But she . . . well cast! Crispin Glover is rad. Why not?
21:45 kaiser soze : isn't he a little crazy
21:45 jt : You can't go wrong with crispin glover.
21:45 Dan : Crispin Glover and Jouquin Pheonix in Face/Off 2?
21:45 jt : Crazy is good. Crazy looks good on film.
21:45 tom_cymbal_monkey : exactly. Their arguement is he's weird, yet they're talking to Andy Dick's people
21:45 Moderator : Andy Dick still has people?
21:46 tom_cymbal_monkey : apparently
21:46 Moderator : Maybe it's just Andy doing funny voices on the phone.
21:46 John Palisano : JT? How is it different working with child actors than adults? (I'd go with Crispin over Andy Dick ten fold!)
21:46 tom_cymbal_monkey : ha ha.
21:46 tom_cymbal_monkey : thank you. We did Joel Weiss from The Warriors though. That's cool.
21:46 jt : Child actors are good. Let them improv.
21:46 tom_cymbal_monkey : *got joel weiss*
21:47 Moderator : Did you write for a child of that specific age, or did you see a range of kids to find the one you liked best?
21:47 tom_cymbal_monkey : oh hey JT, been cooresponding with Sarah Ingerson. I'd like to see her act more.
21:48 jt : Sarah's great. Hoping to get a new DVD of Soft for Digging soon.
21:48 tom_cymbal_monkey : yay! I'll be first in line!
21:48 Moderator : Oh, this came up before you arrived - is S&Man obtainable anywhere?
21:48 moviefan : Why do the borrowers keep them in the ground first?
21:49 jt : S&Man isn't available yet. I'm working on it. Legal stuff getting in the way.
21:49 jt : Burrowers burry people to soften them up. Like spiders keeping food in a cocoon.
21:49 Moderator : Please keep us posted @ FEARnet. We'll be happy to spread the word once you line up a DVD release.
21:50 kaiser soze : like the hulu people do to our brains
21:50 tom_cymbal_monkey : congrats on the Fango article too
21:50 LHendricks : So still no theatrical Burrowers screenings in the NY area?
21:50 John Palisano : Is there a halo around the edges of this scene, or is it the internet stream? Looks cool, though, like an antique photo.
21:51 jt : No NY theatrical burrowers.
21:51 snuggleufabum : where was it filmed?
21:51 Moderator : That head chop gets me every time.
21:51 jt : There's a shadow around the edge of the movie that comes and goes. Intentional, but looks more present in digital.
21:51 jt : We shot BRE up in Woodstock.
21:51 jt : Near where Larry shot Wendigo.
21:52 Dan : Just a comment, the colorizing of the subtitles is inspired. Only movie I can think of that did that as well was Nightwatch
21:52 jt : yeah, i figured the people who spoke sioux watching this would be minimal.
21:52 jt : Might as well make the subtitles kinda fun to read.
21:53 tom_cymbal_monkey : squeal like a pig, burrower!
21:54 John Palisano : Are these real native americans? Amazing casting.
21:54 Moderator : Who did the music?
21:54 jt : All real native americans.
21:54 jt : Music was from On Filmore. Same guys from S&man.
21:54 jt : Believe they have a new album coming out soon.
21:55 Moderator : On Filmore...Avenue? More Brooklyn?
21:55 Dan : So, sequel?
21:55 jt : http://onfillmore.com/
21:55 jt : Burrowers sequel?
21:55 Dan : Yeah
21:55 jt : Probably not in the near future.
21:55 Franco : JT-I'd love to be cast in one of your films.
21:56 tom_cymbal_monkey : Burrowers take Brookliyn. No horses needed
21:56 Dan : Actually, I'd love a prequel to BRE.
21:56 Moderator : I vote you do a sequel set in Alaska. Snow Burrowers.
21:56 tom_cymbal_monkey : people would compare that to The Thing probably
21:56 moviefan : I thought the insect predators was interesting symbolism.
21:57 John Palisano : Thanks for sharing and good luck, JT.
21:57 jt : Thanks.
21:57 FEARman : Hey thanks JT for Chating with everybody
21:57 kaiser soze : are you still planning to work on video games
21:58 jt : Little videogame work here and there.
