In 1919, a serial killer stalked the women of New Orleans. Dubbed the Axe Man - not just for his manner of killing but because he plays saxophone - he killed eight women and terrorized the city.
American Horror Story: Coven
If you are going to divine fortunes, may as well have some “real” witches on your side, right?
We open on Halloween night, 1833. Madame Lalaurie is holding a masquerade ball and a suitor named Jacques shows up for her eldest daughter, Borquita. She tests his mettle by taking him into her “chamber of horrors.”
A few months ago, we told you about the real-life woman, Madame Lalaurie, on whom Kathy Bates’s role in American Horror Story: Coven is based. But she isn’t the only specter of the past. In the show, her mortal enemy, Marie Laveau, was also based on a very famous New Orleans legend.
The coven elders show up to interrogate Fiona and Cordelia about Madison's disappearance; and the uneasy peace between the witch factions crumbles.
The coven is getting new neighbors: Joan Ramsay and her son Luke. Joan is a religious zealot who is offended when she sees the girls watching Luke unpack boxes. Nan and Madison later bring over a welcome cake. Nan is sweet as can be, but Madison really sluts it up and doesn’t veil her flirting.
Madison and Zoe play Dr. Frankenstein to create the perfect boy.
We open in 1834, at a lavish party thrown by socialite Madame Lalaurie. After the party, as she readies for bed, she paints her face with a mask made of blood. She is called downstairs and discovers her youngest daughter fooling around with one of the slaves. After beating her daughter soundly, Lalaurie takes her slave upstairs to her private torture chamber.
I am quite impressed with the first episode of American Horror Story: Coven. It is a far more sophisticated start to the season than any of the seasons before - but that’s not to say that it lacks any of the violence, gore, sex, or shocks that fans have come to expect from the series. I am anticipating a top-notch year with Coven. Here are six things to whet your appetite for the season premiere, October 9th on FX. (Warning! Minor spoilers ahead!)
We are just over a week away from American Horror Story: Coven and the maddeningly enticing teasers are coming out faster than we can keep up with them.
