This is a weird entry that I'm kind of having a hard time writing. I have not been back to Wilmington, North Carolina since the filming of Cabin Fever 2 back in February 2007. Hard to believe it has been almost 3 years...
Everyone has been asking me about this and the internet is full of inaccuracies... So in an effort to clear the air... Here's the deal:
"I don't feel I deserve credit if Cabin Fever 2 succeeds and by the same token I don't feel I deserve blame if it fails. I wrote the story and shot most of the footage, but it was completely re-edited and partially re-shot by the producers, editors and executives. The movie they are releasing was not really directed by me.
Since I am not a member of the DGA the use of a pseudonym has to be approved by the producers and Lionsgate felt that it would be too expensive to re-do the titles and would decrease the value of the final product. They denied my multiple requests to use "Alan Smithee" for my director credit and my name unfortunately remains on the film.
I don't have any animosity towards those involved. I believe they had good intentions, but filmmaking is very personal for me and I can't stand behind something I don't feel responsible for."
So there you have it...

WOW! The House of the Devil won "Best Narrative Feature" at the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival! That's so crazy! Such an honor and such a bummer I couldn't be there to accept it. I never win stuff and that is such a great festival that I feel really proud and very excited to be getting the award. It's rare that a horror movie win anything, let alone "best movie." Pretty neat!
So I am on my way to Austin and I think I know about 15 people on the flight. Suddenly the stock issue crack of dawn travel has become more like some weird exciting field trip. It's always nice when you know people on a plane (who you aren't traveling with) because it makes your trip seem more like a fun adventure. Anyway, we are all headed to Fantastic Fest and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Jocelin has never been to Austin nor experienced anything quite like what this festival has to offer...She is going to be really pumped. (Bonus Points: This is the first time I have ever been on an American Airlines airplane....How is that even possible?)
I finally finished my new project which is a web series for the Independent Film Channel entitled Dead & Lonely. I'm very excited about this. It was a lot of fun to make and IFC has been an amazing company to work with. The gist of the show is that of a Vampire who finds her victims via an online dating website called DateorDie.net. It premieres on IFC.com Monday, October 26 at noon ET/PT. Don't miss it!
I'm writing this from the lobby of a hotel in Seattle. I just checked out and the guy behind the desk had a Pentagram and some satanic scribbling tattooed on the inside of his wrist. He was wearing a suit and didn't notice that I saw underneath his shirt cuff. It was a pretty bold tattoo. I thought about telling him I made a Satanic movie that he should go see this fall... But I opted to just stay quiet, pay for my room service and keep using the wireless internet right up until I have to be at the airport. Someone once referred to neck and hand tattoos as "job-stoppers" but I think this might take the cake. Meh, maybe not... Satanism is so 1982...
There is no point in making any off the cuff comments or self-deprecating jokes about the lack of blog entries. Quite frankly it’s just sad. I don’t know if I ever claimed to be a great blogger, or even more specifically a consistent blogger. But suffice it to say...This is not my forte. But no need to dwell on the negative...
I got word that the lovely Magnolia Pictures will be releasing none other than MY ORIGINAL CUT of The House of the Devil this October. This is SUCH and epic WIN you have no Idea. Anyone who's anyone knows that I was quite perturbed by MPI's decision to cut the movie a week before the Tribeca film festival. So much in fact, that I caused quite a stir in the indie film world. But thanks to the great people at Magnolia (and in all fairness the people at MPI) my bitching and moaning has finally come to an end. In fact, this decision has completely rejuvenated my excitement for the film. I cannot wait until the release...It's going to be awesome!
In other interesting news there is a pretty amazing marketing campaign going on here In Los Angeles for that movie District 9. Tons of bus stops have been converted into "HUMAN ONLY" bus stops. It was pretty perplexing at first and I didn’t really pay much attention because I just assumed I read something wrong. Then I saw more of them and thought It was for some Pixar type kids movie (because of the robot/alien drawing)...But then I looked closer and realized It was for some movie called District 9. I didn’t know what that was...So I Googled it. It's a pretty interesting South African movie produced by Peter Jackson. The FX are pretty cool...I'm definitely intrigued. Whoever came up with the bus stop marketing idea should be made head of a company...it is exactly what viral marketing is all about...well done.
Alright kids that's all for now. Try not to blind yourselves with roman candles over the next few days...You'll wanna have your vision in tip top shape next week when I spill the beans about the new project I've been working on...

I am starting to think that updating this blog is really good luck for me. Every time I write about how INSANELY busy I have been with all my movie stuff - but finally have found time to re-focus on regular updates - some crazy NEW movie stuff happens and I truly get INSANELY busy all over again! JEEZ!!!
First things first:
MAGNOLIA PICTURES is going to be releasing "The House of the Devil" in theaters and video-on-demand this fall! That is really exciting. Magnolia is an awesome company and put out 2 of the best movies I saw last year ("Two Lovers," "Let The Right One In"). The news of this deal is still in its infant stage so I don't have a tremendous amount of specifics to give out just yet. Also, on a side note...They are responsible for the best movie poster I have seen in ages. If you don't know it, check out "The Girlfriend Experience" and its AMAZING artwork. So awesome!
The next pile of news is that I am apparently directing a big studio movie called "The Haunting in Georgia." Hmm...Interesting...Hold that thought.
Lastly, there will be another big update about me and my future dabbling in the dark arts...but it's not quite ready for the interweb just yet. So for now (hopefully only another week-ish) my lips are sealed. Soon though...Very soon...I will be able to talk freely about all of the above...And when that day comes...You all shall be the first to know.
So how is that for an ambiguous almost useless long overdue blog post? Pretty top notch if you ask me...

Wow...It's been over a month since I last updated this. That is pathetic. Apparently my ability to multitask has fallen by the wayside and premiering a movie at The Tribeca Film Festival and shooting a new project took precedent over this here blog. Well don't fret blog fan(s)...I'm back.
