there is a couple of diffrent versions in the UK & one has the bit where Regan does the crab down the stairs cut out!!!

The remaster has the open scene changed where it shows a shot of the house in it the crab walk scene is in it, also the scene where Kris Mcneil walks into the house and the phone is ringing and lights are flashing....I do not not know if I never noticed before or they added it in but the last time the lights flash.....you see a demonic face really quickly right above the stove.....so that was cool.

Hey Mr.B ! Does it say in the commentary WHY they left the crab walk out of the theatrical release? It was a cool scene in the book.

i read the crab scene was cut because William Friedkin thought the effects were to big to have in the film that early

COOL ! Thanks K ! Yeah, the book described the walk as spider. It was the fans that called it the "crabwalk" which doesnt make sense as crabs walk sideways.

Thanks K, I saw the re-relase awhile ago, and I didn't understand why they took it out, it was so scary!!!!

Ya it was one of the anniversary editions that had the crab walk cut out. Pissed me off when I rented it. This was the first of only a few horror movies to actualluy scare me.
