Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Halloween III: Season of the Witch

so from what I've read on that Saw IV thread, the general concensus around these parts is the standard "Halloween III sucks and ruined the series" one?

I love it. I really liked the idea of the Michael Myers storyline ending (I think it really should have been done at the end of the first film personally) and then continuing the Halloween series as sort of a Twilight Zone style franchise with an all new, original story each time.

I think it's a got a great, original storyline (the first script was written by Nigel Kneale!) and is lots of not-so-serious fun.

does anyone else actually like it besides me?

any witches? skeletons? jack-o-lanterns?

On its own...I dig the movie. I can certainly understand why fans of Michael Myers were disappointed when this movie was originally released. No Michael Myers = No likey.

BUT..

Had the series stuck with the premise of releasing a Halloween themed movie annually and just using the holiday itself as the theme that is the one constant amongst the franchise...I think this could have been a very, very cool premise and series.

-Halloween I & II: About a babysitter killer named Michael Myers.

-Halloween III: A demented warlock that owns a mask factory discovers a way to kill the vast majority of children in the world in one fell swoop.

-Halloween IV: An evil hag that lives in THE house that all the neighborhood kids stay away from starts to lure trick or treaters in her abode one by one...and makes evil doppelganger versions of the kids to go back to their unsuspecting families, only to keep the "real" versions to eat at her leisure.

-Halloween V: A frat house Halloween party on a college campus goes awry when one of the party goers is secretly a nerd who got ridiculed years before, and starts hacking the rest of group one by one.

-Halloween VI: Maybe an anthology in the vein of Creepshow...but they all involve the Halloween holiday somehow.

-Halloween VII: The actual evil spirit of Samhain is released somehow by an old artifact found in a small, little country town....and only a group of young trick or treaters know about it. Since nobody will believe them...they have to fight it off by themselves.

OK, OK...obviously IV, V, VI and VII don't actually exist, but get some good writers and good directors to jump on ship, and this could have been a very cool thing that horror movie fans could have looked forward to each year.

Awesome! I like the way you think!

Thanks, man...I appreciate that!

I'm down with the idea of a series of non-Michael Myers movies. He was truly most effective in the first flick, and him disappearing at the end, as the "Boogeyman", should have been the last we saw of him.

III was a decent watch, and ironically (or perhaps it's just poetic coincidence) it feels much more like a Carpenter film than any of the other sequels.

I feel pretty much the same way you do about the movie. Halloween 3 was a good idea that went bad and Myers fans felt let down. But I like the idea of having each one a different Halloween themed movie.

I also liked your ideas, who knows maybe someday we will get a series like this.
