The Daivid Soul version of Salem's lot was great (and is one of my favorites)as was Silver Bullit. I also liked the talisman ('till he killed of Wolfie) but I hated Black House. For those SK fans you'll be happy to know (or maybe not) that they are remaking Creepshow and also in developement is From a Buick 8, The Talisman and Bag of Bones. There is also talk of a remake of IT and Pet Semetary. Also, Dark Tower, Cell and Under the Dome. I haven't read under the Dome yet but hear it's really good.
My favorite work that King has ever put out is still "Different Seasons" as a whole. Pretty much every story in that is incredible. "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" Apt Pupil" "The Body" and "The Breathing Method". I know a lot of people don't like "The Breathing Method" and it feels out of place with the others. Its kind of crude King, a lot like his short stories which sometimes just want to be black humor a lot of times. Guess that doesn't work for a lot of people. Yet the other three are possible the best stuff King has ever written. I read "Different Seasons" when only "Stand By Me"/The Body was the only story that had been adapted from it. Now that both "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Apt Pupil" have been made into movies, I guess the book has become more well known. I loved back when people always used to say "Stand By Me" is from a Stephen King story? I would never had guessed that. Now it just feels like common knowledge.
I cannot sum up the drive to read his novels, however I've seen every one of his movies, listened to several audio books and have read a few of his short stories of which my favorite so far is Mute from Just After Sunset.
Movie... it's hard to say I love both Needful Things and Night Flier.
My favorite SK book is easy, the Uncut Stand is his best work next being It, followed by the DT books.
Favorite movie is probably The Shawshank Redemption, it's a great story and movie but I like all of King's movies in one way or another, they all have value to them.
Sup
I gotta agree, Salems lot it was awesome as a child It was one of the only 2 movies to make me have nighmares the first was the exorcist!

Re: Steven King: Book or Movie??
My favorite book of his was "Nightmares and Dreamscapes."
It has three of my favorite stories by Mr. King, including "Chattery Teeth."
As for my favorite Stephen King-based film, I'd probably nominate David Cronenberg's version of "The Dead Zone."
