Okay, so IMDb is never a reliable source for news, but an interesting little tidbit popped up in its news section this morning: George Clooney will be starring in The Birds remake. Uh… excuse me? Despite the fact that I'm holding back a major loogie to hawk onto this remake of a venerated horror classic, I’ve been paying pretty close attention to what they’re doing with the film, and the only names I’ve heard surrounding it are Naomi Watts (for the Tippi Hendren role presumably) and Martin Campbell to direct. Definitely no Clooney. So where did this come from? Well apparently star of the original Birds Rod Taylor was tipped off that Clooney was to take the lead. Taylor said, and I quote, "I often cringe when I hear mention of remakes, but I'll hold judgement, especially since I've been told Clooney's the favorite."
Okay – so who the hell is talking to Rod Taylor about casting for the remake? Is this simply an old man whose finally jumped the crazy train to batshit town? Or are the filmmakers behind the new Birds really so clueless that they have to ask a guy who only acted in, not made, the original what they should do? Hey, I love George Clooney as much as the next guy – but there’s something awful fishy about this...
