FREAKY SH!T FIND: Pink Ouija Board!
With Black Friday just around the corner, we took another look into the depths of the weird in toyland with our freaky sh!t find. Ladies, do you wish you could connect with the spirit world, but find the brute force and unchecked machismo of a normal Ouija Board just too much to handle? Well, to quote Toys “R” Us on their product description page, “now the OUIJA Board is just for you, girl.” Yes, it seems that Toys “R” Us and Hasbro are attempting to cache in on the influx of female interest in horror and the supernatural (via Twilight, True Blood)…by being completely condescending!
Not only is the Ouija Board now decked out in fashionable pink, but it features tarot-like drawings of the moon, the sun, and woman with windswept hair. Now I’m not saying that there’s anything particularly wrong with positioning this product for girls, but the whole thing just comes off a bit patronizing. Take, for example, the types of questions you can ask, “Who will call/text me next? Will I be a famous actor someday? Who wishes they could trade places with me?” Not to mention the fashionista-friendly pink carrying case!
Maybe they’re just aggressively targeting a demographic. Maybe they think, up until now, only young boys played with the Ouija Board (false). Either way, this is one freaky item, thanks retail toy giants!
