John August Pulls Switch on Tim Burton's 'Frankenweenie' 3D!

Just yesterday, we told you that Big Fish's John August is slated to script Preacher for Sam Mendes, and today according to HollywoodReporter.com, August has been tapped to pen an adaptation of Frankenweenie, originally a 1984 live action horror short from Tim Burton. August (who looks much more weenie than Frank) will take the original story of a boy who reanimates his dog’s corpse after he’s been hit by a car and write a feature length script for this black-and-white, stop-motion-animated 3D adaptation. The production team is set to include a ton of familiar names and faces from Corpse Bride, like Burton, Allison Abbate and Don Hahn and is set to hit theaters sometime in 2011. This is Burton and August’s fifth collaboration—after Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride and Dark Shadows, three of which star (or will star) Johnny Depp. I guess If it ain’t broke don’t fix it…
