This weekend, the cast of Dead Like Me hit the New York Comic Con this weekend to promote their new direct-to-DVD sequel film Dead Like Me: Life After Death. Like the series itself, the film sees the disgruntled George (Ellen Muth) still attempting to find some sort of peace in the afterlife, or at least in her job as a Grim Reaper.
We spoke with Muth and her co-stars Britt McKillip (Reggie) and Callum Blue (Mason), as well as newcomer Sarah Wynter (taking over from Laura Harris in the role of Daisy). They told us they hope Life after Death will ultimately result in a new series that will continue the Dead Like Me saga. But first they'll have to deal with the destruction of their beloved Waffle House...
"It picks up in real time," Muth tells us, "which is the amount of time that elapsed between the series and the film, which is abut three years later. So we've all moved on in age, but none of us have really changed. We're all pretty much the same, except things have changed in our lives, because we discover that our meeting place, our sort of home, the Waffle House, has burned down, and that we have a new boss, who's this 80s yuppie type, who introduces us to modern technology. We're not using Post-Its anymore. And some of us don't really like what he has to offer."
"It's a very beautiful ending," adds Blue of the film's sort-of resolution, "and it definitely opens up for a continuation. The big question is who takes over as head of our little family unit, and how Reggie and George's relationship is gonna [continue]. Because they kind of have a little bit of communication within the movie, so it'll be interesting to see where that goes as well."
Dead Like Me: Life After Death hits DVD on February 17. As of now, there are no plans to air the film on TV, so fans will have to rent or buy a copy if they want to get Dead again.
