We here at FEARnet love a good experimental film, especially one that sounds downright funky! That's why Godkiller has us intrigued. It's Matt Pizzolo's "illustrated film" adaptation of the comic book of the same name that he created with artist Anna Muckcracker. Godkiller tells the tale of Tommy, a young man fighting his way through a post-apocalyptic, alien-populated Earth -- hellbent on getting a new heart for his ailing sister Lucy. The adaptation is set to star genre faves Lance Henriksen, Bill Moseley and Tiffany Shepis -- as well as Justin Pierre (singer of Motion City Soundtrack), Lydia Lunch (Richard Kern's Hardcore Collection), and Davey Havok (singer of A.F.I.). And just what is an "illustrated film", you ask?
Well, according to film's press release, it "mixes elements of anime, radio drama, video games, and motion comics. Utilizing the original artwork from the comic book, the 'illustrated film' adds motion animation, visual effects, elaborate sound design, music, and voice-acting performances." Um, so it's kind of like an animated film then?
Halo-8, the studio behind the film, will debut a clip at this weekend's Wondercon in San Francisco, at Saturday's "Indie Film and Comics" panel. The studio plans to release "limited-edition, serialized, short-form DVDs" throughout the spring and summer months, leading up to the full-length theatrical feature's release in the fall.
Looks cool, sounds cool. Here's hoping.
