After a weekend of voting, we are proud to announce the the Final Four lycanthrops left standing. Results and semi-final voting after the jump.
First off, thanks to Hollywood Crush for calling attention to the epic Whedonverse vs. Team Jacob duel for top spot in our Teen Wolf bracket. Sorry Seth Green, but Taylor Lautner and his well-oiled abs came out on top, 59%-41%.
In the American Male bracket, it was a battle of two 1981 classics. An American Werewolf in London's David Kessler came out ahead of The Howling's Eddie Quist by a 2-to1 margin. And in our International group, Dog Soldier's Captain Ryan trounced The Beast from Brotherhood of the Wolf by a sizeable 62%-38% margin.
The narrowest margin of victory belongs to Anna Paquin's Laurie from recent cult favorite Trick 'r Treat. She fought her way to a 54%-46% victory over Ginger from Ginger Snaps to take our She-Wolf crown. Perhaps Anna's True Blood fans helped put her over the top.
So here are your Final Four match-ups:
ROUND 3: LAURIE vs JACOB BLACK
Laurie (Trick 'r Treat, 2008): Although all of the ladies of Trick 'r Treat come on like victims of big, bad monsters, don't let Laurie's tenderness fool you: she'll stop at nothing, including fulfilling a few victimization fantasies, to fulfill the demands of her werewolf rituals. Laurie transforms in quite possibly the most horrifying way possible to watch - literally shedding the skin of her human self in order to let her fur fly. Her prey of choice is a prospective suitor or two, in which case if she goes all Sadie Hawkins and asks you out first, beware - she may expect you to put out, so to speak. Best moment: In one of the better about-faces in werewolf-film history, a would-be predator disguised as a vampire finds out that Laurie is more than capable of biting back.
Jacob Black (New Moon, 2009): Jacob spent much of his adolescence watching his crush object get spirited away by a different kind of bloodsucker, but in New Moon he matures into something decidedly manlier - a wolf as soulful as he is savage. Patience, in addition to a tolerance for a neverending series of cold showers, is Jacob's secret weapon in this particular battle, but beware his sensitivity: he can turn literally on a moment's notice into a wolflike creature of destruction, even if he still wears jean cutoffs as his choice of comfortable workwear. Best moment: Notwithstanding his sensitive efforts to woo Bella, he shows her his tough side when in an effort to rescue Bella from his wolfen brothers, he catapults himself over a railing, ditches his clothes and transforms into a massive werewolf in mere seconds.
ROUND 3: DAVID KESSLER vs CAPTAIN RYAN
David Kessler (An American Werewolf in London 1981): Overheated and lovestruck as a mortal, David Kessler succumbs to his animal instincts as a werewolf, soon finding that he's an exceptional killer - even if the discovery comes at the cost of his clothes, and his best friend. Unlike other lupine competitors, however, David has the advantage of familiarity with modern-day society, having not only squared off against the police, but a double-decker bus, the fleeing denizens of Trafalgar Square, and perhaps most terrifyingly, the audience of a peep-show theater. Best moment: David makes mincemeat of six people in a single night, but it's his pursuit of an unlucky tube passenger that proves most terrifying.
Captain Richard Ryan (Dog Soldiers, 2002): Originating in the Scottish Highlands, the virtual origin point for werewolf mythology, these monsters are not only cunning because of their animal instincts, but because of their military training. That said, they rely on gun jams and other questionable choices on the part of their prey in order to defeat their dinner, but they do possess the ability to suppress their transformation, even if the moon hangs full in the sky. Best Moment: They're Brits, which means that though they may tear you to pieces, they'll be unfailingly polite while doing it.
The polls are open through Wednesday morning, at which point the two finalists will face off in the championship showdown. We'll crown our Leader of the Pack on Friday, just in time to catch The Wolfman in theaters.
