Things have been pretty quiet on the Resident Evil front in regards to gaming, even as hype is building up for the fourth entry in the film franchise. Resident Evil 5 Gold was nothing more than the original title with the DLC built in, and the Wii port of Resident Evil Zero came and went with barely a blip on the radar.
However, in a recent interview posted on Japanese site Nikkei BP (and translated by Andriasang), Capcom CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto offered some hints at the company’s plans for the franchise moving forward. More after the break!
Tucked in the middle of a lengthy discussion that included everything from the Monster Hunter series to the forthcoming Mega Man Online, Tsujimoto offered this vague but intriguing chestnut:
"The 3D movie Resident Evil IV Afterlife starring Milla Jovovich is scheduled to hit theaters on September 10. Timed with the movie's release, we'd like to do something to heat up the game series."
What exactly this means remains to be seen. Whether it means another Wii port in the Resident Evil Archives series (meh), a movie tie-in game (please God no), or an entirely new title, we’ll just have to wait and see. Let’s just hope the Resident Evil games become scary again.
