Even before legendary shock-rocker Alice Cooper had revealed most of the details about his long-awaited – and most excellent – Welcome 2 My Nightmare (check out our review here), he hinted to his fans that he would be making a cameo appearance in Tim Burton's feature-film adaptation of Dark Shadows, and even invited the film's star, Johnny Depp, onstage for an extended jam session back in June at London's 100 Club. In a recent interview with UK music mag NME, Alice shared more details about the film and his role, and praised Depp as the creative successor to horror icon Lon Chaney. "I always call Johnny Depp Lon Chaney the Third," Cooper says in the NME interview, "because he is the man of a thousand faces. Every movie he does, he finds a way to become another character that probably other actors wouldn't have gone to. He's amazing. He's a brilliant, brilliant actor doing that."
Alice also talked about the surprising success of the original Dark Shadows TV series in the '60s. "It shouldn't have been a hit," he said. "Vampires weren't a big deal back then like they are now, with the Twilight series and True Blood." He goes on to say that the show was "the perfect vehicle for Tim Burton... and the perfect place for Johnny Depp."
