In its first week, Cannibal Corpse’s album Evisceration Plague (see our review here) is already chewing up the charts. At Billboard, it debuted at #66 on the “Top 200 Albums” chart (with nearly ten thousand units sold), #7 on the “Top Hard Music Albums” list and #22 among “Top Current Rock Albums.” It also placed sixth among “Current Independent Label Albums.” It’s also selling well outside the US, with the band’s highest-ever chart debut in Germany (#42 in the Top 200).
This week marks the third time the band has debuted on the Billboard Top 200, and surpasses the performance of their previous album KILL (which debuted at #170), making it the best opening for a Corpse album ever.
"We are blown away by the amazing response to our new album,” bassist and founding band member Alex Webster writes on the band’s blog. “The chart positions that have been reported for this album are well beyond our expectations and the response from both critics and fans has been overwhelmingly positive.”
In other Corpse news, the band is now confirmed to be participating in the 2009 Rockstar Mayhem Festival alongside Slayer, Marilyn Manson, The Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, Job for a Cowboy and Whitechapel. Check back here for details soon!
