Last year we featured the work of award-winning artist, animator and author Joshua Viola in our review of his epic debut novel The Bane of Yoto, as well as its companion 3D comic app featuring the music of cyber-rock giant Celldweller. Viola is also renowned for his video game art direction – as seen in games like Pirates of the Caribbean and Target: Terror – and promotional art for the band Linkin Park (whose “Projekt Revolution” tour Viola hosted). We'll soon be filling you in on his upcoming projects, but in the meantime you can stay updated via his Facebook page.

To get in the Halloween Spirit, Joshua teamed up with friend and fellow artist Aaron Lovett to create a series of portraits depicting beloved characters from classic horror movies. They kicked off the set with an amazing rendition of Chucky, followed by a classy Gremlins piece depicting Gizmo and his evil spawn Stripe.

UPDATE: Joshua has unveiled the third entry, a moody portrait of “Sam” from Michael Dougherty's classic horror anthology Trick 'r Treat, just in time for Halloween... and for FEARnet's Trick 'r Treat all-day marathon. Check it out below, and view the hi-res version at Josh's Deviant Art gallery.
