Nintendo of America certainly chapped my caboose when they all but refused to ever publish Fatal Frame IV, the Wii-based entry in the infamous series directed by none other than Shadows of the Damned and Lollipop Chainsaw director Suda51. It's still a fairly raw wound, but they've announced something that soothes the pain a little. Nintendo is bringing Fatal Frame to the 3DS…just not how you might think. More details from Kotaku after the break.
The spiritual successor to Fatal Frame—pun completely intended—is Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir. In Spirit Camera, players are cast as Maya, a young girl trying to escape a curse cast on her by the Woman in Black. The twist is in players using the 3DS' cameras to scan in pages from the included Diary of Faces, which adds an augmented reality twist to bring the in-game ghosts into the real world. Of course, this sort of AR hoodoo was also behind the high-concept stinker The Hidden, so I'll take a generous helping of apprehension with this one.
Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir will be released, appropriately enough, on April 13th (which is a Friday) for the Nintendo 3DS.
