I've been watching the steady rise of Florida-based gothic/industrial artist Frightdoll since hearing her second full-length project Assimilation Illusion late last year... and I have to say that since then, several of the tracks from that album keep finding their way into many of my ever-shifting playlists. One of the most memorable is the single Alone In This, which makes its video premiere this week. You can check out the vid below the fold, and while you're in there, find out about a little Halloween treat Frightdoll's been brewing up for you...
Directed by Danny Rendo of electro-industrial outfit Deconbrio, the video for Alone In This was shot at West Palm Beach hot-spot Respectable Street – a venue where the artist plays frequently, and whose owners kindly opened up the club on an off-day for the production. 'I really wanted to shoot there, as the club itself has a lot of great artwork all around, and different walls with textures to play with,' she explained. Shot in super-saturated colors, the visuals capture the song's combination of warm, organic sensuality and sinister metallic beats. In the artist's words, the '90s-style indie approach looks 'a bit vintage... while still having a very 'rock star' feel to it.'
Keeping the same dark spirit alive – but with a wink – Frightdoll has also created a new single for Halloween entitled Cackling 'Round the Cauldron, which she describes as 'a fun song to match the season... just a bit of Halloween kitsch.' The track will be available for download next Friday from iTunes and Amazon MP3. To keep that seasonal vibe going, be sure to check out her MySpace in the coming weeks for a series of steampunk-themed Halloween photos.
But right now, dig Alone In This below!
