In a statistical fluke that has organizers shocked and UK metal fans laughing their asses off, an internet poll looking for respectable images of “landscapes, people or products” that best represent icons from the British seaside county of Suffolk was overrun by votes for local boy Daniel Davey – better known to the extreme music world as Dani Filth, founder and frontman of demonic metal team Cradle of Filth. The news recently came in from the UK's Daily Express, and we've got the whole bizarre story below the fold...
According to the Express, a group called Choose Suffolk invited people to send in photos for the “Suffolk Icons” contest, fully expecting the nominations to include “coastal beach huts, landscapes, historic buildings and prominent locals like former Ipswich Town manager Sir Bobby Robson.” What they didn't expect, however, was 13,025 votes for Filth, who lives in Ipswich himself and formed Cradle Of Filth in Suffolk during the early '90s. Dani not only won the contest, he shut out the next highest image by a whopping 11,806 votes.
Sadly, they're not sticking with those results, choosing instead to go with an approved short-list of Filth-free images... which is kinda bogus, if you ask me. Still, it was definitely worth it for the shock value, which I'm sure Dani would appreciate.
