Phantasialand Theme Park in Bruhl, Germany is home to many amazing and often terrifying attractions... but the spinning, thundering, flame-throwing “Tolucan” ride could be the scariest.

Talocan opened in 2007, in a section of Phantasialand based on ancient Mexico; the name comes from the Aztec god who wields the forces of thunder, lightning, fire and rain. All of those elements come into play on this horrifying piece of machinery – a “suspended top spin” ride (the only one of its kind in Europe) which not only flings patrons head over heels and dangles them over a huge abyss, but also bombards them with water jets and massive fireballs, as you'll see in the nightmare-inducing clip below.

The ride has apparently met with some controversy since opening – a combination of traumatized passengers and neighboring residents complaining about the extreme noise levels, what with the geysers of steam and regular earth-shaking explosions going on every few minutes.

If you're able to squeeze some traveling this Summer, you can pretty much stay in a constant state of terror – in the US, there's the terrifying new Verrückt (Insane) “Mega-Blaster” water slide opening in Kansas City, and of course Six Flags' nightmarish “Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom!”
