One of last year's standout genre surprises, Joshua Viola's surreal, violent fantasy epic The Bane of Yoto, was born across multiple incarnations – most notably a novel (which has since gone on to win multiple awards), a groundbreaking 3D comic series, and a soundtrack by electro-metal giant Celldweller. You can get the full backstory in my book review, plus a closer look at the creation of the comic's first episode, “Monster.”
Leviathan Games has just launched the second episode, entitled “Brothers,” which expands the saga of the title antihero and explores the events that led to his transformation and his relationship with his brother Eon. This installment also ups the ante with an expanded interactive experience, allowing the reader to unlock secret content – including more Celldweller music, previously unreleased concept art, and excerpts from the novel.
The Bane of Yoto app employs Dreamotion™ technology, which was developed by Leviathan specifically for the comic and has won its own share of critical praise.
iOS users can purchase Episode II at iTunes, and those with compatible Android devices can get the Nvidia Tegra version from Google Play. If you missed the first installment “Monsters,” you can pick it up from the same vendors. Check out the new trailer below, which includes a teaser for another Josh & Celldweller team-up, Blackstar Act 1.
