This May marks the return of Godzilla to the big screen in the Gareth Edwards-directed reboot of the franchise, and Legendary Comics is leading up to this cinematic event with the graphic novel Godzilla: Awakening, which was announced by director Edwards today.
The 72-page book, set decades before the events in the movie, showcases the birth of the atomic age and the forces of nature that were unleashed as a result. Written by Godzilla screenwriter Max Borenstein and Greg Borenstein and featuring artwork by Eric Battle (X-Men, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman), Yvel Guichet (Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero, Superboy Annual, End of Nations), Alan Quah (Rage, The Vampire Diaries, Anywhere) and Lee Loughridge (Batman Adventures, Arkham Asylum: Living Hell, Marvel Zombies Return) the graphic novel acts as a reintroduction to the atomic monster before his cinematic return. Best of all, at least for this grizzled old fanboy, is the cover art by the legendary Arthur Adams, whose work on Fantastic Four and Uncanny X-Men was definitive.
Godzilla: Awakening will be on sale May 7, 2014 for $19.99.
