Sure they like their blood and guts, but in the end, the genre community is a soft-hearted bunch.
Founded by Halloween producer Malek Akkad, the sCare Foundation brings the horror community together to raise awareness for at-risk youth. Honorary board members include filmmakers John Carpenter and James Wan. Last year the non-profit hosted its inaugural Halloween Benefit with special guest Jamie Lee Curtis. The event was a success, and a donation was made in her name to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
The sCare Foundation will host its 2nd Annual Halloween Benefit Event at the Conga Room at L.A. Live on Sunday October 28, 2012.
“We had a terrific inaugural event last year and as a result, were able to donate to the Hollywood Homeless Youth Partnership,” Malek Akkad said. “As a result of the funds raised, HHYP was able to support paid internships for youth transitioning from homelessness to stability as well as purchase much needed medications for homeless youth who are uninsured and diapers for homeless youth who are parents. This year, we hope to do even more. As a group, the horror community can and will make a difference and this event is just one of the many ways to make that happen.”
