Many natural phenomena take on strange and frightening forms when you look at them just right – and this amazing gallery of water images curated by travel site Matador Network offers some seriously chilling examples of nature's spooky side.

The 65 photos in the collection were taken from every part of the globe, and many of them are very easy on the eyes. But others resemble hellish alien landscapes, and a few, like this Morning Glory Pool at Yellowstone National Park, even look like they're staring back at you:

Other creepy examples include a perfectly round mega-sinkhole in Belize, the blood-red Daqubang River in China, the well-named “Devil's Bath” in New Zealand, and a living organic soup bubbling up from a pond in Switzerland.
