Inspired by Instagram's newly-launched video feature – which allows users to record video clips in 15-second increments – intrepid filmmakers Tim Buel and Cody Rhyse decided to launch the first Instagram horror web micro-series, entitled 15 Seconds of Horror.
Buel described the making of the series at geek-centric site One of Us, explaining that the idea originated as a joke between the two, in response to the lack of horror content being created by Vine users. It was then he realized they actually had a pretty cool idea here.
“Cody and I had just finished writing a horror feature and were itching to start working on something,” Buel explains. “We also both loved the idea of shooting completely in-camera and using the constraints of no post-production (besides a handy Instagram filter) to boost creativity. All audio would have to be in-camera, and any effects would need to be practical.”
After uploading the first few stand-alone episodes, the team realized there was enough material for a story arc. They expanded it to a non-linear serial format spanning 13 episodes, which they then linked together into a YouTube clip premiering on One of Us... and you can watch it here:
