Klaus holds a dinner party for Marcel and his inner circle, a sort of introduction to their new leader. He introduces them to Hayley, and since she is carrying his child, she is to be given “the appropriate respect.” In other words, “don’t kill my baby mama.”
Marcel introduces Tyler to his inner circle. Tyler explains about the hybrids, their strengths and weaknesses, how Klaus slaughtered them all, and how his unborn child will be Klaus’s way of creating an army. Rebekah interrupts the proceedings, but she is not there to rip out Tyler’s heart; she is there to help.
Marcel hosts a fight club in which the winner will be one step closer to joining his inner circle and gaining a daylight ring. A victor is crowned, but Klaus interrupts the match by breaking her neck.
Klaus and Elijah are having a very “dignified” afternoon, reading and listening to classical music. Of course there is a dead body between them, a peace offering from Klaus, which Elijah refuses. And of course, Rebekah is the one who must clean it up.
The most important thing we learn tonight is how Davina came into Marcel’s care. Ready?
Davina removes Elijah’s stake in a curious-puppy way. She tells Marcel that she doesn’t want to give up Elijah - he told her to find a way to kill an Original, and dammit, she is going to figure it out! She also wants to go to the music festival. Marcel refuses, and Davina explains how she can make someone’s blood boil - then demonstrates on Marcel.
How do Klaus and Rebekah get Elijah back? Klaus thought he would start by simply asking Marcel for his brother back. And if that doesn’t work, there is always plan B. I love plan B. Plan B is always something vicious, and in this case, according to Klaus, it is war.
This episode contains lots of backstory, lots of flashbacks, and lots of reveals that certain innocuous occurrences have deeper meanings.
The first episode of The Originals is a retelling of “The Originals” episode of The Vampire Diaries but told from Elijah’s point of view.
If you watch The Vampire Diaries, then you know all about The Originals and you know if you are going to watch the show. With the planted pilot that aired during TVD last season, you have a good feel for what to expect from The Originals. But let’s say that you watched a few episodes of TVD and thought it was a little too young for you. The Originals might lure you in.
